White Funeral Home JESUP - Marian Gertrude Schmitz, 87 years old, of rural Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at UnityPoint – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. - Thursday, June 19, 2025, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville, IA. Visitation will begin with a vigil service at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, and continue until 7:00 p.m., with a Catholic Order of Forester Rosary at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will also be for an hour before services, Thursday, at the church. Marian was born January 13, 1938, in rural Black Hawk County, IA, the daughter of Leo George Wagner and Helen Julia (Becker) Wagner. She graduated from St. John Catholic High School in Independence, IA, with the class of 1956. On October 27, 1958, she was united in marriage to Raphael “Ray” Arnold Schmitz at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. Marian worked at Rath Packing in Waterloo, IA, and became a loving farm wife after their first child was born. Marian was a great cook and baker and took pride in having a well-kept house. She also liked to dress up, especially when she and Ray would attend events, she would put on her “fancy” clothes. Marian was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, and she was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Gilbertville. Marian is survived by two sons, Steven (Paula) Schmitz and Bill (Theresa) Schmitz, all of Jesup, IA; two daughters, Teresa (Don) Kass of Jesup, IA, and Betty (Wayne) Breitsprecher of Independence, IA; seven grandchildren, Brett (Jessica), Erin (Zane), Jacob (Molly), Jordan (Caitlin), Allison (Elliott), Breatta (Aaron), and Nick (Maddie); 12 great grandchildren; two brothers, Don (Eileen) Wagner of Arlington, TX, and Mike (Ruth) Wagner of Marion, IA; and one sister, Diane Gudenkauf of Independence, IA. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ray; her sister and brother-in-law, Norma (Michael) Fischels; and brother-in-law, Paul Gudenkauf.
