WASHBURN Joseph Stacy Hellman, 80, of Washburn, Iowa, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 6, 2024. He was born to Victor and Marie Hellman on October 19, 1943, in Waterloo, IA.

In 1962, he graduated from Columbus High School in Waterloo, Iowa. He then served four years as an Air Force Policeman stationed in Germany. When Joseph returned to the United States in 1965, he met Helen and they married on August 5, 1967, at St. Edward Catholic Church in Waterloo. After his return, he continued to serve in the Air Force Reserve for three more years and worked as a laborer at the former Waterloo Corrugated Box Factory until he retired in 2006.

Joe is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen of Washburn, IA; his children, Daniel (Meleody) Hellman of Nashville, TN, Don (Erin) Hellman of Waverly, IA, Denis (Sara) Hellman of Dysart, IA, Darren (Amy) Hellman of Gilbertville, IA, Nick (Sarah) Hellman of Cedar Falls, IA, Stacy (Ron) Harmon of Cedar Falls, IA, Theresa Willey of Washburn, IA; his grandchildren who brought so much joy to his life are Jordan, Morgan, Ethan, Jon (Brianne), Payton, Rachel, Atiana, Austin, Autumn, Alaina, Aiden, Joe, Emma, Samantha, and Kaitlyn; his siblings, Jim Hellman, Vicki (Wayne) Tapper, Ron Hellman; and one brother-in-law, Gerald Kayser.

Joe’s faith and love of God were alive in his love and life all these years with his family and his approach and care for people. He spent his life working to support his family and caring for those he loved. More than anything else, he loved his wife, his children, and his grandchildren. He cherished the time he spent with them, celebrating life’s big moments and creating ways to make life together amazing by spending as much time as he could with them, listening to them, playing with them, and kidding around with them. The time spent with them was precious in his eyes and in his heart and his family and friends felt the same way about him.
