COGGON – John C. “Jack” Hynes, 83 years old, of Debary, FL, and formerly of rural Coggon, IA, died peacefully, Tuesday, August 6, 2024, at his home in Florida.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. – Saturday, September 21, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Ryan, IA, with Fr. Gabriel Anderson, celebrant, with burial at the Calvary Cemetery in Ryan. A reception will follow at the residence of Steve and Marci Miller.

Jack was born on January 4, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of John Francis and Ruth Hynes. He attended Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, WI. He continued his education at Creighton University in Omaha, NE, for his first two years of college, and finished the last two years at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA. When he wasn’t leading the Iowa Hawkeyes Marching Band in the wrong direction, he was working tirelessly to graduate in 1967, with a degree in sales and marketing.

Jack worked his entire career in various sales and marketing management positions with the Link-Belt Construction Equipment Company, originally based in Cedar Rapids, IA. Jack hated golf, so after retiring in 1998, he enjoyed spending his time fishing – both fresh and saltwater. He especially looked forward to his summer fishing trips to Minnesota with family; his international travels with his wife and friends; and watching his beloved Chicago Cubs and Stetson Hatters. Jack loved his grandkids and enjoyed visiting them all over the country. Jack loved taking those cross-country road trips in his Corvette convertible…Judy, not so much!

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Judy Hynes of Debary, FL; five children, John (Tammy) Hynes of West Hills, California, Jyl D’Ann Hynes of Eau Claire, WI, Joe (Lysa) Hynes of St. Petersburg, FL, Julie Brown Hietala (Brad) of Eau Claire, WI, and Justin Hynes (Nadia) of Buffalo Grove, IL; his six grandchildren, Zane Hynes, Jack Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Daniel Hietala, Cody Hynes, and Kyle Hynes.

Jack is preceded in death by his loving parents, John Francis and Ruth Hynes.

In lieu of flowers, Jack and his family would appreciate memorials to be sent to the Orlando Union Rescue Mission, 1521 West Washington Street, Orlando Florida, 32805.

White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements.
