Jesup - Marvin P. Hershberger, 82 years old of Jesup, IA, entered into rest on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at his home at Winding Creek Meadows in Jesup.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. – Saturday, May 18, 2024, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with burial at St. Athanasius Cemetery. Military Rites will be conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342 of Jesup.

Visitation at White Funeral Home, Jesup, will begin with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2024. Visitation will continue until 7:00 p.m., with a Parish Vigil service at 6:00 p.m.

Marvin was born November 3, 1941, in Beloit, WI, to Paul Gnagy Hershberger and Frances Henrietta (Ehr) Hershberger. He graduated in 1960 from Don Bosco High School, in Gilbertville, IA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from January 1963 to January 1967. He was stationed with the Mine Pack West Unit in Long Beach, CA, and served one tour in Viet Nam on a minesweeper. After his tour of duty, Marvin was discharged from the Navy, moved back to Jesup and purchased his first farm in the fall of 1971. Marvin was also proudly employed at John Deere for 26 years from 1974 until his 2002 retirement. After retiring from John Deere, Marvin continued farming in Jesup, but also enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe. Marvin’s travels took him to numerous farm and tractor shows, tours of the John Deere facility in Germany, and Vatican City in Rome.

Marvin was a dedicated member to the Knights of Columbus Council 8227 and a member of the Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342, both in Jesup; also, a member of UAW Local 838 in Waterloo, IA.

Marvin is survived by one brother, Roger (Kathleen) Hershberger of Jesup; one sister, JoAnn (Kenneth) Seliger of Jesup; a sister-in-law, Barbara Hershberger of Jesup; nieces and nephews, Derek (Alanza Lake Hererra) Seliger, Travis (Dora) Seliger, Jared (Miranda) Seliger, Seth Seliger, Alicia (Matt) Peterson, Paul (Sarah) Seliger, Brian (Natalie) Hershberger, Shelley Hershberger and Brett Hershberger; also many great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Donna Hershberger, and one brother, Merle Hershberger.

Memorials will be directed to the tuition assistance programs at both Don Bosco High School in Gilbertville, IA, and St. Athanasius School in Jesup, also to Cedar Valley Hospice.
