Jesup - Roger Lynn Maakestad, 69 years old of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. – Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with burial at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Roger was born April 25, 1955, in Story City, IA, the son of Duane Franklin Maakestad and Mabel Iris (Mason) Maakestad. He graduated from high school in Radcliff, IA. He was first married to Deborah Erickson before divorcing in 1985. On May 14, 1994 he was united in marriage to Jane Ann Krueger in Eldora, IA. He worked as a school custodian in Eldora and later worked as a rural newspaper carrier for the Waterloo Courier. He and Jane moved to Jesup in 2012 and Roger retired in 2017.

Roger is survived by his wife, Jane Maakestad of Jesup; two sons, John Maaklet, Alamogordo, NM; Ryan (Rene) Maakestad, Des Moines, IA; one stepdaughter, Sara Kelley, Independence, IA; 3 grandchildren; 1 step granddaughter, Alexis Kelley; three brothers, Wendell (Chris) Maakestad, Cedar Rapids, IA, Dale (Mary) Maakestad, Radcliffe, IA, Dean Maakestad, Iowa Falls, IA. His parents preceded him in death.
