White Funeral Home Quasqueton - Roger C. Silberstein, 74 years old, of Quasqueton, Iowa, died on Monday, February 15, 2016, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. He was born on March 25, 1941, in Primghar, Iowa, the son of Carl Frederick and Beata Sophia (Westphal) Silberstein. He graduated from high school in Primghar with the Class of 1959. He then earned a B.S. degree in Dairy Science from Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, in 1963. On December 26, 1963, he and the former Patricia Sue Kingsbury were married in Ames, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1994. On January 30, 1998, he and the former Delia Carino Unciano were married in Independence, Iowa. Mr. Silberstein had a varied career, mostly in sales of various products. He also farmed and was a prison guard in Anamosa, Iowa. He retired in 2007. He was a member of the Cedar Rock American Legion Post #434, AARP, and the NRA. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, his pet dogs, and gardening. He sold his extra produce at local Farmers Markets. Mr. Silberstein is survived by 3 sons, Scott (Lynn) Silberstein of Solon, Iowa, Quentin (Patsy) Silberstein of Slater, Iowa, and Shadron (Tammy) Silberstein of Independence, Iowa, 1 daughter, Maureen (Jim) Awtry of Montezuma, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Rhonda Westphal of Primghar, Iowa. He is also survived by his step family in the Philippines. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, 1 daughter, Zerin Silberstein, and 1 granddaughter, Samantha Silberstein. A Celebration of Life will be held from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016, at the American Legion Hall in Quasqueton. His cremated remains will be buried in the Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements. |
