Independence – Nadine M. Cook Hines, 94 years old, of Independence, Iowa, formerly of Walker, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on February 1, 1928, in Washington Township of Linn County, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Hilda Margaret (Madsen) Hepker. She graduated from high school in Walker, Iowa, and earned her teaching credentials at the Normal School in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She taught in the country schools before she married. In 1952, she and Eldon Earl Cook were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1974. She later married and divorced Lyman Hines. Nadine was a member of the Walker Historical Society and the Troy Mills American Legion Auxiliary. Nadine cared for her family members as long as she was able.
Nadine is survived by her daughter, Julie Cook of Walker, Iowa, and her sister, Sharon Martinez of Alpena, Michigan.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; 1 daughter, Karen Kimmerle; 1 granddaughter, Maren Kimmerle; and 3 brothers.
Private burial will be held in Wilson Cemetery in Independence at a later date. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
