Winthrop – Dewey A. Petersen, 75 years old, of Winthrop, Iowa, formerly of Ely, Iowa, died at his home in Winthrop on Sunday, August 7, 2022.  He was born on June 13, 1947, in Anamosa, Iowa, the son of Dewey August and Nellie Marie (Hurt) Petersen.  He graduated from high school with the Class of 1965.  He served as a medic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.  On March 12, 1983, he and the former Beckie Rae Chesmore were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  Mr. Petersen was a planar circuit board inspector at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for 40 years until retiring in 2003.  He enjoyed experiencing nature by hunting mushrooms, gardening, and fishing.  His dogs were also important.  His annual Halloween party was a high point of the year.

Mr. Petersen is survived by his wife of 39 years, Beckie, 2 sons, Dewey (Lisa) Petersen of Independence, Iowa, and Shane Chesmore of Delhi, Iowa, 2 daughters, Lisa (Bill) Kirby of Coggon, Iowa, and Lori Comstock of Ryan, Iowa.  He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Destiny, Trevor, Dewey, Jr., Taylor, Ashton, Paris, Michelle, Katherine, Dan, Amie, and Jamie, 4 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Paul (Nina) Petersen of Nashville, Tennessee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 7 siblings, Tommy Petersen, Velma Collins, Lorraine Hartwig, Fred Petersen, Doug Petersen, Richard Petersen, and Helen Petersen.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, August 20, 2022, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Woodpecker Lodge at Pinicon Ridge Park in Central City, Iowa.  On line condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.  White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
