Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. – Friday, November 12, 2021, at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, with inurnment at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Gilbertville, IA. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 11th at White Funeral Home and for an hour before services, Friday, at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family. Michael was born May 18, 1977 in Iowa City, IA, the son of Michael James Ungs, Sr. and Charlean Marie (Hepler) Ungs. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1995. On September 28, 2002, he married Tamara K. Johnson in Cedar Falls. The couple later divorced. Michael worked as a CNC operator at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo. He was a member of UAW Local 838 in Waterloo. He had also worked at Bertch Cabinet Manufacturing. Michael enjoyed darts and pool leagues, fishing and hunting, and anything that had to do with his children. He coached and served on the board of directors for the Evansdale Youth Softball Association. He was determined to see his oldest girls graduate, and he was able to do that in May of 2021. This is just one example of his perseverance. Michael is survived by one son, Hunter Ungs of Waterloo; three daughters, twin daughters Emma and Natalie Ungs, and Alexis Ungs all of Waterloo; his mother, Charlean (Dennis) Weber of Jesup; his father, Michael (Laura) Ungs, Sr. of Independence, IA; one sister, Danielle Ungs of Evansdale; two step sisters, Lisa (Jimmy Connell) King of Waterloo, Lyndie Decker of Hudson; a half-brother, Ben Ungs of Denver, CO; and half-sister, Emily Ungs of Waterloo; his maternal grandmother, Norma “MawMaw” Hepler of Evansdale and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. His maternal grandfather Elmer “PawPaw” Hepler; paternal grandparents, Clem Ungs, Sr. and Iola Ungs, and a niece Kayla Decker preceded him in death. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is assisting the family with arrangements. |
