Friends are welcome to stop by the family residence in Waterloo on Saturday, September 11, 2021, beginning at 12:30 p.m., where the family will gather to remember Jerry. A private burial will be held at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo at a prior time. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Bend Humane Society. Jerry was born April 1, 1939, near Jesup, IA, the son of Orval Charles Shatzer and Lucille Darnell (Miller) Shatzer. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1957. After attending college, he began working at John Deere in Waterloo where he became a supervisor with the company before retirement. In 1961, Jerry was united in marriage to Sharon Eileen Schuler in Jesup, IA. The couple later divorced. On July 9, 1982, Jerry married Rita Jeanne (Widger) Rossow, in Independence, IA. They have made their home in Waterloo for many years. He was a proud grandfather and will be remembered by many. He enjoyed traveling with his family. His sons recall travelling internationally during their childhood years and learning about other countries with fondness. Jerry’s wife Rita was his rock and they shared many years with memories together. Jerry is survived by his wife, Rita Shatzer of Waterloo; two sons, Zane (Meredith Kennedy) Shatzer of Portland, ME, Noel Shatzer (Bonnie Theus) of Simpsonville, SC; five grandchildren, Ames, Wynn, Austin, Madison and Rylee; one great grandchild, Corbin and a brother-in-law, David Webber of Jesup. His parents; a stepson, Jimmy Rossow; and one sister, Mary Staples-Webber, preceded him in death. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
