Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2021, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Benjamin Nkrumah as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow the mass at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery in Jesup and will also include inurnment services for Dorothy’s son, Tim Schares. Visitation with the family will be for an hour before services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Dorothy was born October 18, 1932 in Dana, IA to Thomas and Margaret (Edwards) Rouse and graduated from public schools there before graduating from Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, IA. Dorothy’s college roommate (Rosemary Schares), introduced her to her future husband, Justin Schares, and they were married on June 11, 1955. His pharmaceutical career took them to live in many states including Iowa, Minnesota, South Dakota, Arizona and Illinois. Later in life Justin became a Doctor of Chiropractic and Acupuncture Care and Dorothy was his office manager. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker who was very creative and enjoyed woodworking, calligraphy, painting, reading, sewing, and birdwatching. She was also known for her quick wit, sense of humor, and her devotion to the Catholic faith. Dorothy is survived by 7 children, Ann Tkaczow (Pat) of Lima, NY, Paul Schares (Dawn) of Fargo, ND, Mark Schares (Linda) of Albuquerque, NM, Steve Schares of Austin, MN, Tom Schares (Becky) of Chesapeake, VA, Bernadette Moran of Aberdeen, SD and Mary Kootsikas (Dean) of Sugar Creek, MO; a daughter-in-law, Paula Schares of Morrison, IL; a close family friend, Bonnie Hong of Idaho Falls, ID; 22 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Justin M. Schares in 2015, a son, Timothy Schares in 2020, her parents and 3 siblings, Tom, Mike and Catherine.
