Independence – Sharon L. Anderson, 86 years old, of Independence, IA, died of natural causes on July 19, 2021 at the Cedar Valley Hospice House, Waterloo, IA.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. - Saturday, July 24, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church, Independence, IA. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence, IA.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, July 23rd at White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, and for an hour before services, Saturday, at the church. Condolences may be left at www.White-MtHope.com.

Sharon Lee Hackbarth was born June12, 1935, at Dows, IA, the daughter of Milton Ernest Hackbarth and Anne Pauline (Keepf) Hackbarth. Sharon graduated from Dows High School with the class of 1953. On February 24, 1957, she was united in marriage to Roger J. Anderson at the Morgan Township Church in Dows. The couple eventually made their home in Waterloo, IA, where they raised their family. Sharon worked as a secretary for a number of Waterloo businesses, including Carpenter’s Plumbing & Heating. The couple eventually moved to Independence and wintered in Sun Lakes, AZ, for about 25 years. Roger preceded Sharon in death in 2006.

Sharon was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church and active in many organizations through the years. She was a member of the Wapsipinicon Country Club and enjoyed golfing, gardening, and playing cards - especially bridge. She liked to travel, camp, and be with her children and grandchildren.

Sharon is survived by her daughter Michelle “Shelly” (Troy) Bertelli of Independence, IA; one daughter-in-law, Kris Anderson of Chandler, AZ; four grandchildren, Leah (Chris) Hoover of La Crosse, WI, Katie Anderson of Boston, MA, Grace Bertelli of New York, NY, Sophie Bertelli of Independence, IA; one great-grandson, Arthur Hoover; one brother Jim (Judy) Hackbarth of Roseville, CA;  and one sister-in-law, Brenda Hackbarth of Vinton, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Anderson; one son, Douglas Anderson; and two brothers, Darreld Hackbarth and Craig Hackbarth.

White Funeral Home, Independence, IA, is in charge of the arrangements.
