White Funeral Home Fairbank – Clarence Wayne Shannon, 87 years old of Fairbank, IA, died Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Private family graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Fairbank, IA, with Fr. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Military rites will be conducted by Fortsch-Duffy American Legion Post #552 of Fairbank. Memorials may be directed to the family. Clarence was born December 7, 1933, at Fairbank, IA, the son of Paul Gregory Shannon and Alta Lavina (Ohl) Shannon. He attended country schools in Buchanan County, IA. He went on to serve in the United States Army. On November 20, 1958, he was united in marriage to Alice Frances Brickman at Immaculate Conception Church in Fairbank. Clarence began his career at John Deere before continuing on as owner/operator of Whitey's Mobile Milling. During those years, he acquired many lasting friendships. In later years, he attended Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering. Clarence most enjoyed spending time with family and his grandchildren, fishing, writing music, singing, and playing guitar. Clarence is survived by his wife, Alice Shannon of rural Fairbank, IA; five daughters, Jeannie (Craig) Kleitsch of Fairbank, Jackie (Bruce) Berryhill of Fairbank, Jodie Puff of Hazleton, IA, Janelle Shannon of Fairbank and Jessica Shannon of Fairbank; two sons, John Shannon of Independence, IA and James Shannon of Fairbank; 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his twin brother, Cecil Shannon (Janet Wissler) of Oelwein, IA; two sisters, Helen Welsh of Waterloo, Joyce Leininger of Evansdale and many nieces and nephews. His parents; 3 sisters, Virginia Lumsden, Alice Brown, Betty Linihan; and five brothers, Marshall Shannon, Howard Shannon, Duane “Red” Shannon, Leroy Shannon and infant brother Robert Shannon, preceded him in death. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of the arrangements. |
