He was born on March 9, 1946, in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, the son of Raymond Wesley and Dorothy Leslie (Buss) Hulbert. He grew up in Phillipsburg and graduated from high school there with the Class of 1964. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 until 1968. Following his military service, he moved to Arlington, Iowa. On September 22, 1984, he and the former Susan Jane Wedemeier were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Mr. Hulbert was a long haul truck driver, a factory maintenance worker, and an electrician. He retired in 2008. Every time he made a trip back to his hometown it was necessary to stop for a famous Toby’s Cub steak sandwich and a deep fried hot dog. He enjoyed watching Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and Boys Little League World Series ball games. He was a volunteer driver for veterans who needed rides to appointments. He also liked to tinker with his truck and watch as much TV as possible. Mr. Hulbert is survived by his wife of 36 years, Sue, 1 son, Justin (Jodi) Hulbert of Altoona, Iowa, 2 daughters, Sheri Hulbert of Conrad, Iowa, and Kristy Hulbert of Marshalltown, Iowa, 4 grandchildren, Emersyn, Sam, Preston, and Nathan, and 2 sisters, Linda (Bob) Fisher of Phillipsburg, N.J., and Beth (Budd) Matlock of Apollo, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Deanne. Visitation will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 19th, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Graveside Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. A Memorial Fund has been established. |
