White Funeral Home HARMONY, MINNESOTA – Michael L. Peters, 77 years old of Harmony, MN, and formerly of Jesup, IA, died of natural causes, Thursday, December 3, 2020, at the Harmony Care Center, Harmony. Public Graveside Services will be 12:00 p.m. – Thursday, December, 10, 2020, at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Public visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at White Funeral Home, 1315 Main St., Jesup, IA. Masks and social distancing will be required at the funeral home and cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church, Jesup and the American Cancer Society. Michael LeRoy Peters was born March 18, 1943, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Elmer “Dew” Fargo Peters and Addie Louise (Bridgeman) Peters. He was raised in rural Jesup and graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1961; he then attended IBM Training in Minneapolis, MN, and became a computer programmer at Minneapolis Moline in Hopkins, MN. He worked for Rank Scherr-Tumico Inc. in St. James, MN, as a data processing manager for many years before he moved to Harmony, MN, and started BUDGET RIDE, a travel agency for the Amish Community. He worked closely with AMTRAK and GREYHOUND and at one point became the top sales agent for AMTRAK. Mike had great respect for the Amish and often would give tours of the community. He enjoyed buying, selling, and collecting cars and tractors – he also enjoyed helping organize his high school class reunions. He was very proud of his 1996 Chevy Impala SS – YUD LUZ. He also took pride in being a member of the Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Squire Association. Mike made his home in a number of different places, including, Mountain Lake, MN, St. James, MN, and most recently in Harmony, MN. Regardless of where he was, he always kept a place in Jesup and stayed connected to his rural upbringing. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church, Jesup. Mike is survived by three sons, Dean (Sandra) Peters of San Tan Valley, AZ, Jeffrey Peters, and Richard Peters, both of Good Thunder, MN; one granddaughter, Sydney Peters of Good Thunder, MN; two brothers, Roger (Kathy) Peters of Kemmerer, WY, Dennis (Candace) Peters of Poulsbo, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of arrangements. |
