White Funeral Home Jesup – Helen Hattie (Bailey) Blad, 94, of Independence, IA, and formerly from Jesup, IA, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2020 at Lexington Place in Independence. Helen was born Jan. 3, 1926 to Franklin Ray Bailey and Effie Mae (Ennis) Bailey, and graduated from Jesup High School in 1944. She married LeRoy Alder Blad on January 3, 1947, in Waterloo, IA, and they farmed in the Jesup area before moving to town in 1956. Helen was a life- long member of First Presbyterian Church of Jesup, and spent her last five years at Lexington Estates in Independence. She was a very giving person and always cared about others first, she loved conversation, playing cards, jigsaw puzzles and created a card ministry that touched so many lives. Before marriage she kenneled eggs, worked; in the housekeeping department at Peoples Memorial Hospital; she also worked for a time at Rath Packing; and Jesup Community Schools. She is survived by three children Carol (John) Noe of Brandon, IA, Char (Ron) Bantz of Independence, and Connie (David) Funke of Jesup; five grandchildren, Darin Noe, Derek Noe, Dana (Jesse) Olson, Eli (Brittany) Funke, Aaron Funke; and three step great-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Kendyl and Degan Olson. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, four brothers, Roy Bailey, Ralph Bailey, Clarence Bailey, Robert Bailey, and three sisters, Eula Brown, Nellie Green, and Iva Dinnnebier. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there will be a private family service Thursday, November 19, 2020, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jesup with burial to follow at Old Barclay Cemetery, rural Jesup. Pastor Dawn Person will officiate and assisted by Kristy Parker. Memorials may be directed to the family. |
