White Funeral Home Raymond – Dale A. "Arch" Shannon, 84 years old of Raymond, IA, died Monday, October 12, 2020, of congestive heart disease at UnityPoint - Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, IA. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. - Friday, October 16, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Raymond, IA. Military rites will be by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714. Dale Archie Shannon was born November 9, 1935, at rural Fairbank, IA, the son of Daniel Vernon Shannon and Veronica Edith (Weber) Shannon. He graduated from Immaculate Conception Catholic High School, Fairbank, with the class of 1953. After working for a short time he joined the United States Army, and proudly served his country until 1958. During his time of service, he worked as a supply sergeant, building bridges in Germany. On November 26, 1959, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Marie Wellner. Dale worked as a police officer in Waterloo for 25+ years, retiring as a sergeant. He was a member of the Nugent – Demuth American Legion Post #714 of Gilbertville, AMVETS Post #31 of Evansdale, IA, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Raymond. Dale loved to watch his grandchildren play sports. He also liked to fish, camp, and play cards. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed coffee with the guys. Memorials will be directed to Bosco Catholic Schools, Cedar Valley Catholic Schools, and Cedar Valley Hospice. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of arrangements.
