Raymond – Robert Jerome Schmaltz, 63, years old of Raymond, IA, died Saturday, August 22, 2020, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Evansdale, IA.
Public visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, masks and social distancing will be required.
Private family services will follow at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Bob Schmaltz was born December 13, 1956, at Devils Lake, North Dakota, the son of Clem Steven Schmaltz and Shirley Ann Rasmussen. On December 28, 1974, he was united in marriage to Linda Marie Hornstien at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Devils Lake. They divorced in 1993. Bob later married Geralyn “Geri” Rose Klein on September 4, 1999, in Raymond, IA. Bob worked as a baker for 20 plus years, in North Dakota and later in Iowa. He also worked construction for a time. Making their home in Raymond for over 20 years, he and Geri have owned and operated A1 Cleaning Services.
Bob is survived by his wife Geralyn “Geri” Schmaltz of Raymond, IA; four daughters, Aimee Wolff of Hudson, IA, Jessica Schmaltz of Waterloo, IA, Jamie Knebel and fiancée Dan Taylor of Independence, IA, Jodie (Todd) Trebon of Ankeny, IA; one son, Jason (Marci) Knebel of Maquoketa, IA; 14 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; three brothers, Michael Schmaltz of Twin Valley, MN, Tony Schmaltz of Devils Lake, ND, Peter (Vicki) Schmaltz of Devils Lake, ND; three sisters, Mary (Harold) Harrington of Minot, ND, Frances (Greg) Joramo of Phoenix, AZ, and Angela Olsen of Dilworth, MN.
Bob’s parents; one brother, Michael (in infancy); one nephew, Aaron Joramo; one brother in law, Steve Olsen; and one sister in law, Lynda Schmaltz, preceded him in death.
Bob worked hard. He enjoyed fishing but his favorite past time was spending time with his family and the love of his life, Geri. Carrying candy to hand out was a trademark of his the grandchildren, nieces and nephews will always remember with a smile.
