White Funeral Home Fairbank - Velda Darlene Haldeman, 94 years old of Fairbank, IA, died Tuesday, February 4, 2020, of natural causes at MercyOne - Oelwein Senior Care, Oelwein, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. - Saturday, February 8, 2020, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fairbank, IA, with Pastor Jacob Swenson officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Memorials will be directed to the church. Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., Friday, February 7th, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a scripture service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will also be for an hour before services, Saturday, at the church. Velda Darlene Heth was born May 4, 1925, in Fairbank, IA, the daughter of Paul Rudolph Heth, Sr. and Emma Katrina (Hartman) Heth. She attended country school and eventually moved to Hastings, NE, where she worked at an ammunition's depot, during World War II. It was in Hastings, where she met the love of her life, Harry Haldeman. After the war, Velda moved back to Iowa, and Harry joined her when he was discharged. The couple was united in marriage on February 16, 1946, in Fayette, IA. They made their home in Iowa for a year before they moved to Pennsylvania, closer to Harry’s family. After 20 years in Pennsylvania, Harry’s job took them to New Jersey, where they lived for 20 years. After Harry’s retirement, the couple moved back to Iowa in 1986, to be closer to Velda’s family. Harry preceded Velda in death on September 27, 2019. Velda loved to write - she was an artist with her words, authoring countless poems. She enjoyed playing BINGO and BUNCO and always had a smile. Her quick wit and good nature will be missed. Velda was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fairbank, IA. Velda is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; 5 brothers, Arnold Heth, Clemens Heth, Esra Heth, Paul Heth, Jr., Walter Heth; and 1 sister, Eileen Eckheart.
