Jesup – Carol Marie Smith, 75 years old of Jesup, IA at Littleton, died Sunday, November 3, 2019, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, IA, from cancer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. – Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, IA with burial at Littleton Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday for an hour before services at the church.  Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Carol was born December 22, 1943, in Manchester, IA, the daughter of Robert Earl Gibbs and Dorothy Marie (Coonrod) Gibbs.  She graduated from Manchester High School in 1962. She also attended Community College programs for food service trades in Calmar and Waterloo, IA.  On June 6, 1964, she was united in marriage to Eugene John Smith at the Lutheran church in Dundee, IA.  They have made their home in Littleton for all most 55 years.  Over the years she has attended Lutheran churches in Jesup and most recently in Independence.  She also did in home care.  Carol loved her family and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Carol is survived by her husband, Eugene Smith of Littleton; two daughters, Cindy Smith of Littleton, Janette Smith of Waterloo; 8 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter; one brother, Larry (Brenda) Gibbs of Dent, MN; and one sister, Diane (Fred) Elsbury of Lamont, IA.  Her parents preceded her in death.
