White Funeral Home GILBERTVILLE – Lyola William McGee, 97 years old, of Gilbertville, IA, died Saturday, July 20, 2019, at LaPorte City Specialty Care, LaPorte City, IA, of natural causes. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville, IA, with Fr. Henry P. Huber, celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Raymond, IA, with military honors conducted by Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and parish vigil service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Wednesday, at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph and Immaculate Conception parishes, Bosco Catholic School Systems, and charities of your choice. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, is in charge of arrangements. Lyola was born December 3, 1921, in rural Cresco, IA, the son of Leo McGee and Geneva (Cummings) McGee. He was raised on a farm and attended country school in rural Winneshiek County, IA. He joined the United States Navy and served his country during World War II. On October 6, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marion Louise Peter in Cresco, IA. He was employed by Rath Packing until his retirement in 1984, but his true passion was farming. He farmed near Raymond for 45 years. Faith and family were important to him. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren dearly. Lyola knew no strangers and had the gift for finding and creating family wherever he went. Lyola was a member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Raymond, IA, former member of Knights of Columbus Council #700 and current member of Knights of Columbus Council #8227; and Nugent-Demuth American Legion Post #714, Gilbertville, IA. He was also a member of the Rath Packing Retirees. Lyola is survived by 1 daughter, Rose (Curtis) Behnke of Seattle, Washington; 2 sons, Richard (Teresa) McGee of Croton-on-Hudson, New York, Randy (Laurie) McGee of Plano, TX; 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Geraldine Ott of Denver, IA, and Mildred (John) Ellingson of Rochester, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marion; 1 son, Robert McGee; 2 sisters, Eileen Whalen, Dorothy Hovey; and 3 brothers, Willis McGee, Leo McGee, Jr., and Ronald McGee. |
