Independence – Neva M. Holland, 100 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Friday, May 10, 2019, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence. She was born on September 23, 1918, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Miles LeRoy and Katherine Josephine (Pefaur) Littlejohn. She graduated from high school in Sioux City with the Class of 1936. She attended Morning Side College in Sioux City for 2 years before transferring to the University of Iowa in Iowa City. She graduated in 1940. During World War II she served in the Women’s Army Corps. On December 18, 1943, she and Ronald Verne Holland were married in Independence, Iowa, at the Holland family home. He preceded her in death in 1987. Mrs. Holland taught Girl’s Physical Education in the Independence school system for 28 years before retiring in 1984. She was formerly a member of the Independence Garden Club, the Wapsipinicon Golf Club, and the Independence League Bowling.
Mrs. Holland is survived by 1 daughter, Sharon (Robert) Harrison of Madison, Wisconsin, 1 grandson, and 2 great granddaughters.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 son, Jon Holland, and 2 brothers, Charles and Kenneth Littlejohn.
Private committal services will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
