White Funeral Home Jesup – Bernadette A. “Bernie” Ohrt, 95 years old, of Jesup, IA, died of natural causes, Sunday, May 26, 2019, at Lexington Estates Long Term Care, in Independence, IA. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. – Thursday, May 30, 2019, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Rev. Jeffrey A. Dole, celebrant. Burial will be at Reinbeck Cemetery, Reinbeck, IA. Visitation will be 4 p.m. – 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 29th at White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Rosary at 4 p.m. and Vigil Service at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services, Thursday, at the church. Memorials can be directed to the family to be given to different causes. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of arrangements. Bernadette Anna Gardner was born October 16, 1923, in Waterloo, IA, the daughter of Peter Anthony and Anna Catherine (Neisen) Gardner. She attended school in Gilbertville, IA, and then worked several different jobs before getting married. On March 4, 1943, she was united in marriage to Donald Guy Ohrt at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Gilbertville. They made their home in rural Buchanan County where Bernadette was a homemaker and worked with Don on the farm. She was the quintessential farm wife – strong, hardworking, and loving. She made you feel important. Bernadette liked to take short trips with Don, to Arkansas, Missouri, and southern Iowa. Bernadette also liked to cross stitch and cook. She had the talent of cooking her recipes from memory. Bernadette was a member at St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup. Bernadette is survived by 1 daughter, Connie (Gary) Netherton of Richmond, MO; 6 sons, Clinton (Karen) Ohrt of Jesup, IA, Clayton (Doris) Ohrt of Independence, IA, Calvin (Lou) Ohrt of Moravia, IA, Craig (Susan) Ohrt of Richmond, MO, Corbin Ohrt of Winthrop, IA, Cleon ( Becky) Ohrt of Walker, IA; 19 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Petronilla Yarrington of Waterloo, IA, Ann Kayser of Jesup, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; 1 granddaughter, Shawn Ohrt; 1 great granddaughter, Hope Eliza Rae Ohrt, 3 sister, Rita Homolka, Lucy Duff, Doretta Menuey; 4 brothers, Claud Gardner, Don Gardner, Pat Gardner, and Pete Gardner. |
