Jesup – Raymond Patrick Hagarty, 75 years old, of Jesup, IA, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Havasu Regional Medical Center in Lake Havasu City, AZ.

Raymond was the oldest son of Patrick and Marjorie Hagarty and was born December 28, 1943 in Charles City, IA. Ray graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1962 and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, MN. On August 16, 1974, Ray and Arline Louise Cook were united in marriage, and were blessed with three children – Wendy, Dawn, and Ryan.

Ray was truly a “jack of all trades and master of all,” as there was nothing Ray could not fix. He was an avid fisherman who loved spending time in Minnesota, fishing with his family. He also enjoyed tinkering at his shop, reading, finding a good garage sale and wintering at Lake Havasu City, AZ. Ray was a member of both Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Havasu City, AZ, as well as St. Athanasius Catholic Church in Jesup, IA. He was active with the Havasu 4 Wheelers social organization in Arizona and the Pump Scheer American Legion Post #342 in Jesup, IA.

Ray’s compassionate heart, warm spirit, patience and tremendous wisdom would lead many to call him for consolation on almost any topic.

Left to honor his memory is Arline, his wife of 44 years; his 3 children, Wendy Hagarty of Denver, IA, Dawn (Kyle) Radue of Long Beach, CA, and Ryan (Shelia) Hagarty of Solon, IA; 5 granddaughters, Chelsea Frost, Lexus Frost, Aurora Christner, Briar Rose Christner, and Irelynd Hagarty; 1 great granddaughter, Scarlett Flynn; 12 siblings, Donna (Svend) Lash-Andersen, Tim (Sheri), Veronica  (Lee) Mangrich, Dennis, Greg (Diana), Sheila Lehman, Kevin (Kristy), Maureen (Rod) Drexler, Marcia (Tony) Bedard, Steve (Diane), Brian (Diane), and Michelle (Bill) Noonan.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Terry Hagarty.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 15 at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Jeffrey A. Dole, celebrant. Raymond will be laid to rest at St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery in Jesup following the service with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup.

Visitation honoring Raymond will be held from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 14 at the White Funeral Home in Jesup, where there will be a 2:00 p.m. parish rosary and a 6:00 p.m. parish vigil service. Visitation will continue for an hour before services on Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to St. Athanasius Catholic Schools and Camp Courageous. White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA is in charge of arrangements.
