White Funeral Home Jesup – Paul W. Haley, 88 years old of Jesup, IA, died Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the Western Home Communities – Deery Suites in Cedar Falls, IA. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 15, 2019, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, Burial will be in the church cemetery with military rites conducted by Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 of Jesup. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 14th at the White Funeral Home, Jesup, IA, where there will be a Parish Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue for an hour before services Friday at the church. Memorials will be directed to St. Athanasius School and Pump Scheer American Legion Post #342 in Jesup or to Cedar Valley Hospice. Paul was born May 30, 1930, in Independence, IA, the son of Warren W. Haley and Estrid Annette (Johnson) Haley. He graduated from Jesup High School with the class of 1948. Paul served in the US Army from 1951 – 1953, seeing active duty in Korea and then remained in the Army reserves until 1976. On November 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Connadena Ann Kurtz in Jesup where they made their home and raised their family. Connie preceded him in death in 1999. On October 15, 2004, he married Delores P. (Kuchar) DeWald in Jesup. Paul worked as a supervisor for Rath Packing Company in Waterloo; was the custodian at St. Athanasius church, school, and cemetery for a number of years; he was an active member of Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342 and a member of St. Athanasius Church. He coached basketball teams at St. A's, plus he umpired and supported Jesup Little Leauge teams for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking. Paul is survived by his wife, Delores DeWald of Jesup; two sons, David Haley and his wife Becky Montgomery of St. Paul, MN, Thomas Haley and his wife Deb Ebeling-Haley of Pella, IA; two daughters, Susan Haley and her husband Gary Luxon of Boerne, TX, Barbara Hand of Alburnette, IA; 2 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 1 step great grandchild. His parents; first wife, Connie; son in law, Mike Hand; one sister, Annette Benjamin Valdez and one brother, John Haley, preceded him in death. |
