Ivan attended country school in Otterville and went on to graduate from Independence High School in 1961. After joining the Army and serving during the Vietnam War, Ivan worked for John Deere for 25 years. After retirement, he became an active volunteer with the Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post #30. He also participated in Operation Santa for 20 years. He was a member of the U.A.W. Local #838. Ivan was a classic car aficionado and enjoyed spending time shopping for collectibles and other treasures. Ivan married Kathleen Quinn on November 25, 1967 . They divorced in 1995, but remained good friends. He is survived by Kathleen and their four daughters – Kristine (Jason) Adams of Broomfield, CO; Sandra (Craig) Erickson of Deephaven, MN; Theresa (Kevin) Mueller and Missy Appleby, both of Independence , IA , along with six grandsons and two granddaughters. He is also survived by one brother, Ron Appleby of Marion , IA , and one sister Carol Appleby of Waterloo , IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Arlene Reisner. A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 , at the White Funeral Home in Independence . Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence . Friends may call for visitation from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1st, at the funeral home. |
