Independence - Karen K. Christian, 65 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.  She was born on May 10, 1953, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Wesley Dean and Hazel Lorraine (Buchholz) Hamblin.  She graduated from high school in Jesup, Iowa, with the Class of 1971, and then attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  On August 11, 1979, she and David Guy Christian were married in Littleton, Iowa.  Mrs. Christian was a telephone operator for over 30 years before retiring in 2005.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Jesup where she was formerly active organizing the Sunday School and Bible School.  She enjoyed baking, cake decorating, and sewing.

Mrs. Christian is survived by her husband, David, 1 daughter, Jennifer (Taylor) Simmons of Independence, 1 grandson, and 2 brothers, David (Joyce) Hamblin and Dean Hamblin, both of Jesup.

She was preceded in death by 1 brother, Randy Hamblin.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 1, 2018, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Rev. David Beckman officiating.  Burial will be in Littleton Cemetery at a later date.  Friends may call for visitation from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 30^th, at the funeral home.
